Pastoral Ministry

The College has a strong Pastoral Care program throughout the school and we are blessed to have a Sister of Mercy, as our Pastoral Minister.  The Pastoral Minister has an important role providing support to all members of our College community at times of need.  This may be supporting staff members who may need help in addressing the needs of their students or their families, or visiting family members who may be fighting ill health, or who are grieving the loss of a loved one. She also assists families where possible with much needed support, especially when their daughter is struggling with attendance at school and keeping up with her academic commitments.

The Pastoral Minister also conducts Religious Education classes, prayer experiences for students, staff and families and is available to speak at any of the Mercy Ministry activities throughout the year. Having spent time in East Timor, Sr Breda is certainly qualified to share her experiences of Mercy in action and to promote the value of service to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Sr Breda journeys with students requiring preparation for the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation and organises the reception of the Sacraments, where necessary, at the Wednesday morning College Mass. She also assists with student Reflection Days by providing workshops in prayer and meditation.

Most importantly, Sr Breda is part of the rich history of Mercedes College, having been a former student, and is a continual reminder to us of what living the Mercy charism is in the context of the 21st century.
